Science Officer

The main tasks and responsibilities will include the following: ? Project management and organisational/scientific/technical implementation of Seascape Belgium’s activities in ongoing and new European collaborative projects, keeping track of all deliverables, milestones and tasks; Ensuring the quality and timely delivery of all outputs. ? Contribute to pan-European technical studies, strategic roadmaps and foresight exercises in the relevant thematic area (e.g., marine biodiversity data management, data requirements and product development, biodiversity protection, pollution, marine data and knowledge sharing mechanisms, ocean observing and interoperability issues, circular blue economy); ? Organise and chair project meetings and workshops, develop minutes and produce quality reports and outputs; ? Develop well-researched and scientifically accurate content for project and communication outputs and liaise with team members to bring in relevant competencies as required to meet the project objectives; ? Represent Seascape Belgium at project meetings and workshops; ? Contribute to or lead the production of high-quality papers, policy briefs, communication materials, minutes and reports; ? Working with senior management to ensure contractual reporting requirements in the framework of Horizon Europe or relevant funding body.

The successful candidate is expected to have the following qualifications and competences: ? Qualification in a relevant discipline at Masters level or higher with a specialisation in natural, marine or environmental science, policy or governance; ? Demonstrable track record with at least 8 years of experience working in the domain of marine or environmental science, scientific project management or related field, implementing and overseeing work involving ocean science, marine data flows and visualisation, data and information product development, science policy advice and foresight, environmental assessment and/or marine knowledge generation/management; ? Versatility and flexibility to adapt to changing requirements, independent worker, solution-focused creative thinker and problem solver. ? Experience working with multidisciplinary teams, with strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work transparently while applying a team-oriented work ethic. ? Ability to report progress and issues in an effective manner (internally and externally) and ability to draft concise and clear documents and reports without supervision; ? Excellent project management skills and ability to identify, address and overcome scientific and technical challenges. ? Able to combine social, organisational and project management efficiency with policy driven scientific and technical project goals; ? Excellent standard of spoken and written English. Knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage; ? Excellent organisational skills with capacity to multitask, to deliver on allocated tasks and to meet deadlines in pressurised situations; ? Ability to build successful and productive relationships with stakeholders, user groups and other project team members. ? Ability and willingness to work at strategic, tactical and operational levels, with a strong can-do attitude to handle the diverse requirements of this role.
