Develop new MOCVD growth processes of GaN and perform related material characterization methods What you will do You are a member of the Epitaxial Growth group (EPI), which is responsible for the development of new deposition processes and semiconductor device structures in close collaboration with the integration departments running imec's research programs. As part of cross-functional teams of about 15 people with whom you interact daily, you work in a dynamic multidisciplinary and multicultural environment in close cooperation with Researchers, Process and Hardware Engineers, Equipment Vendors, Industrial Assignees as well as Device and Process experts. As a Senior Researcher on Epitaxial growth, you will be responsible for developing new MOCVD growth processes of GaN and perform related material characterization methods. This activity is primarily carried-out in the 200/300 mm cleanroom. With your deep experience in GaN deposition, in device physics of e-mode GaN HEMTs / vertical transistors, in material characterisation and in MOCVD hardware, you will also have an advisory and support role for your researcher, engineering, and hardware colleagues. More specifically, you will:
- Define and implement with your team colleagues the strategy for the development of GaN growth processes
- Monitor industry trends and innovations to identify future technology needs and to propose innovative new ideas
- Identify process requirements and development opportunities
- Work cross-functionally with the integration teams, process support and hardware teams and industrial partners, utilizing scientific and engineering skills to enhance the overall team capability and success
- Define PhD topics and supervise these students
- Apply structural, electrical, or optical characterization techniques to your grown layer stacks.
- Provide a fundamental understanding on the physical and chemical processes that govern the growth dynamics of GaN materials.
- Share and discuss your R&D results at team and program meetings.
- Report about your work to internal and external partners, on international conferences, publish key results in scientific journals and turn new ideas into IP.
- Support your team members with your scientific expertise and actively contribute to the research programs and joint development programs with external partners.
- Transfer optimised processes to our industrial partners ("tech transfers")
- Including documenting the processes, giving classroom and field training, and supporting the industrial partners during their initial ramp up phase
Our innovative research is strongly driven by imec's program requests and customers and must meet defined project deadlines and deliverables. Hence, all development activities and deliverables are aligned internally beforehand to ensure sufficient resources, full support from your colleagues and a reasonable timeline.
Who you are - You preferably have a PhD in Physics or Material Science.
- 3-5 years' hands-on experience in epitaxial growth of GaN materials using MOCVD is must. Experience with AIXTRON MOCVD reactors is clear plus.
- You already have a fundamental knowledge in semiconductor technology, crystallography and device physics, in particular GaN/AlGaN devices, and you can easily acquire more in depth understanding according to your project needs.
- You have a track record in your field of experience and are recognized by the worldwide community as such.
- You are an enthusiastic and creative team player with strong networking, communication and reporting skills who likes to work in a multicultural team of imec researchers, PhD students and industrial researchers.
- You have project management skills. You are working on your own and well-organized to follow your project timeline.
- You have a strong focus on quality for your deliverables and development progress and set high standards in everything you do with a strong attention to details.
- Given the international character of imec, good knowledge of (spoken and written) English is a must.
