Project Manager Dual Use Technology

VLIZ is looking for an experienced Project Manager with an affinity for Dual Use technologies to strengthen the vibrant team of the Policy and Innovation division. This job offer relates to the growing number of R&I projects within VLIZ in the field of innovative marine observations and data management that have a civil as well as a military purpose (dual use). Furthermore, the valorisation of research which is relevant for securing critical maritime infrastructure comes into scope as well. YOUR TASKS VLIZ takes on an active role at the intersection of marine research and professional end-users in the Blue Economy and marine policy. This results in a growing number of R&I projects and initiatives in close collaboration with a wide and international network of research institutions, companies, policymakers, and innovation actors. Increasingly, these projects have a dual use and/or offshore security finality and as such, we are looking for a new colleague who is enthusiastic about coordinating and developing these innovative projects. Within the Policy and Innovation division (Valorisation and Innovation department), you will perform the following tasks:

• You take on the (strategic) coordination of ambitious projects within VLIZ (for example in the context of the European Defense Fund, EDF);
• You oversee the successful implementation of these projects within the institute. In this context, you actively interact with a multidisciplinary project team and handle the necessary reporting in cooperation with the technological and administrative experts at VLIZ;
• You represent VLIZ, along with colleagues, at national and international project meetings as well as in relevant networks and conferences, serving as an ambassador for the institute;
• You support and further develop the internal governance and management of dual use projects;
• You manage and expand the portfolio of R&I projects and proposals that have a dual use and/or offshore security finality. In this regard, you actively seek and develop new project/collaboration opportunities for VLIZ;
• You proactively invest in building up the necessary knowledge and expertise (e.g. follow-up of relevant policies, scientific and technological developments, etc.).

YOUR PROFILE

• You hold a master's degree (in natural sciences, social sciences, (bio)engineering, etc.) (or equivalent experience);
• You have proven experience in managing (complex) projects;
• You have an affinity with (marine/maritime) research, innovation and technology;
• Previous experience and/or knowledge regarding marine observations and data management is considered an added value;
• You can write fluently and communicate clearly, preferably in both Dutch and English. A proficiency in French is considered an added value;
• You have a sharp and analytical mind and possess a healthy dose of strategic insight and diplomacy;
• You are eager to work in an international context;
• An understanding of the defense context (legislation, policy, funding, etc.) is considered an added value;
• Knowledge about Mine Countermeasures (MCM) and relevant technology is considered an added value.
