LEIDERSCHAPSONTWIKKELINGSPROGRAMMA IN HET ONDERWIJS
Functieomschrijving
Why is this something for you? In Belgium, inequality in education is only increasing today. A 15-year-old student with an underprivileged background has more than 3 years of learning disadvantage compared to a student who grows up in a promising environment. This vicious circle of educational inequality increases the risk of poverty and social exclusion for those who already come from the most precarious backgrounds. Students need teachers who are motivated and equipped to deal with all the challenges in the classroom. That is why Teach for Belgium offers training and support aimed at developing the skills needed to teach in disadvantaged, multicultural and multilingual contexts, with a specific focus on (positive) classroom management, diversity and resilience. Participating in the Teach for Belgium programme means committing to a better future for these students and fighting social and economic inequality. How does it work? For two years, you will follow an extensive program of training, coaching and networking, focusing on your professional and personal development to bring about maximum impact and (further) develop transversal skills. The goal is to develop in such a way that you become an actor of social change in the world of education. At the same time, you teach full-time in secondary education for two years in schools with a low socio-economic index and you are appointed and paid by the Flemish or French-speaking Community. The aim of the coaching and training is to help you gain a better understanding of inequalities between schools and the levers that can be used to have a systemic impact on this complex problem. After the program After the program, you will be able to choose your further impact and career as an alumnus with a well-filled backpack of strengthened skills and confidence. Some of our alumni continue to teach as teachers, or opt for impact within the school as a policy officer or director, while others continue within the broader field of education, or opt for a career in a non-profit organisation, the private sector, policy positions or politics, depending on their own skills, motivation and experience.
Profiel
We select and train recent graduates and professionals from all sectors who have the necessary competences, energy and passion to work in schools with a low socio-economic index and are committed to the reduction of educational inequalities. These specific skills are assessed during a rigorous selection process, in order to include only the best profiles, the leaders of tomorrow, in our mission. The program, worth more than 20,000 euros, is then offered free of charge to participants thanks to various philanthropic and public funding sources. We recruit participants for subjects where there is currently the greatest shortage of teachers: mathematics, science, Dutch and French. A teacher's diploma or experience in education is not mandatory for this, but it is a plus. To teach another subject, you must be in possession of a pedagogical certificate of competence. You must have a passive knowledge of English.
