The position includes the following tasks:
- Configure, manage, and maintain HPC servers for department users
- Implement, update, and optimize bioinformatics tools and pipelines both in the local and cloud environments
- Establish and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for HPC server users and system operations
- Collaborate with bioinformaticians and researchers to understand their computational needs
- Ensure data security, backup, and recovery procedures are in place
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues as they arise
- Stay up to date with the latest developments and IT systems administration
Profil
- You have a professional bachelor’s degree in computer science, (Bio)informatics, or a related field or equivalent competences gained through prior work experience
- You have good oral and written knowledge of English, Dutch
- You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation
- You have proven experience as a systems administrator, preferably in a scientific computing environment
- You have a strong understanding of Linux/Unix systems and shell scripting
- You have experience with high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud)
- You are familiar with version control systems (e.g., Git)
- You have knowledge of programming languages such as Python, R, ….
- You are excelling in problem-solving and have good communication skills
- You can work independently and as part of a team
- You are willing to learn and implement new technologies/tools
- You are familiar with or are willing to learn common bioinformatics tools and databases
- You have strong skills in planning and organisation

- We offer a permanent contract upon positive evaluation after one year.
- You will receive a gross monthly salary within pay band 4.1-6.1 of the pay scales of the Administrative and Technical Staff. Your entry-level grade depends on your relevant professional experience.
- You will receive meal vouchers, ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, group insurance, an income protection insurance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
- We offer flexible working hours.
- You will have 40 days of annual leave and collective leave for 1 week when the university is closed, between Christmas and New Year.
- You will do most of your work at Center of Medical Genetics (Prins Boudewijnlaan 43, 2650 Edegem) in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
