The Energy and Living department addresses a diverse array of topics, including European Standards designed to protect consumers through safety requirements for products like toys, baby beds, furniture, lighters, sports equipment, textiles, and more. It also encompasses standards for the European energy market, food safety across the EU, safe access to healthcare, household appliances, and HVAC systems. Sustainability and the circular economy are integral, cross-cutting themes throughout all these areas.



Project Manager for European Standards in Consumer Sectors – Energy and Living

Job description



  • He/she will oversee the work programme of Technical Bodies across various fields, including consumer products such as furniture, childcare articles, textile (including sustainability aspects), etc and thus supporting the development of relevant documents and interacting with CEN and CENELEC Members’ representatives and experts from different backgrounds and industries.






  • Furthermore he/she will interface with the European Commission for the topics under their responsibilities and represent CEN and CENELEC in relevant meetings whenever required.a



The five main areas of activities are the following:



  1. Standardization Rules Advisor


• Support to drafting standards by leading training and webinars on the rules and new developments in the standards development process;



  1. Sectoral Representative


Represents CEN and CENELEC interests in meetings as an ambassador dealing with sectoral topics in the assigned portfolio to facilitate discussions and engage with stakeholders;


3. Develops essential relationships with key internal and external stakeholders (colleagues, members and partner organizations of CEN and CENELEC, Technical Committees, standardization organisations at regional and global level and European institutions …);


• Prepares position papers and briefings to profile standardization in the sector;


• Prepares communication materials: articles, videos, podcasts, etc ;


• Be the single point of contact for the sector:



  1. Continuous Improvement Leader

  2. Administration


What will your work life look like with your team and your manager?



  • You will report directly to Team Account Manager Joanna, who has recently been promoted to team leader. Joanna has been working for 10 years at Cen Cenelec. She expects a proactive attitude from her new project manager—someone who sees opportunities and solutions rather than challenges.

  • You will be part of a team of five project managers.

  • The team values collaboration within a multicultural, vibrant environment, fostering a positive mindset for everyone.



Profile


  • Master’s degree in EU politics, business administration or equivalent

  • Policy and/or technical expertise related to various fields, e.g. different consumer products including the aspects of sustainability would be a strong asset for the ideal candidate

  • Relevant professional experience in the EU environment is a plus

  • Awareness of EU institutions and regulatory processes or willingness to learn about them

  • Very good spoken and written English

  • Ability to work against tight deadlines, being structured and organized

  • A high capability for prioritization and flexibility, adapting to urgencies

  • Ability to understand and act according to standardization rules

  • Interest to follow the political, legislative and technical developments (e.g., consumer products such as furniture, childcare articles, textile, etc.)

  • Ability to juggle between political and strategic exchanges and more technical discussions

  • Ability to present complex matters in a clear and concise way

  • Ability to undertake related administrative tasks
